RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ARENA OPERATIONS ACROSS EUROPE
As Chief Operating Officer (COO), John’s role covers multiple countries and everything from content programming, to commercial, marketing, ticketing, facility management, customer experience and event operations.
John joined AEG in November 2016 as Vice President and General Manager of The O2, the world’s busiest music arena. In this role, John was responsible for the continued growth and success of the iconic venue, which in 2022 celebrated its 15-year anniversary, before being promoted to COO in 2019. Prior to joining The O2, John was Director of Live Entertainment for the Scottish Event Campus in Glasgow.
John holds various industry-wide roles, including recent Presidency of the European Arenas Association and Chair of LIVE Green – the UK Live Music trade association focused on environmental sustainability.
Born and raised in South Africa, John has an undergraduate degree in Business from WITS University in Johannesburg, an MBA in Strategic Marketing from the University of Hull, as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Business and Climate Change from Cambridge University.
John is incredibly passionate about leading AEG’s response to the climate crisis. He lives by the words of François Hollande, “We have a single mission: to protect and hand on the planet to the next generation.”
